The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is looking into what led up to an inmate being killed at Northeast Correctional Complex in Mountain City last Saturday. Investigators say 24-year-old Timothy Tillery Jr. of Knoxville was pronounced dead Saturday morning after his body was found inside the prison. The Tennessee Department of Correction officials say Tillery had been involved in an "altercation" with several inmates. The Johnson City Press reported that details of that altercation, and of Tillery's death, were not released, but that investigators are treating the death as a homicide.
