Last Tuesday in Avery Superior Court, Richard W. Rose Jr., pled guilty to one count of statutory rape and has been sentenced.  According to court testimony, in September of 2013, Rose engaged in intercourse with a thirteen-year-old girl while the girl’s guardian was running an errand. Judge Gary M. Gavenus sentenced Rose to between 221-326 months in prison—18 to 27 years. 24th District Attorney Seth Banks said that “this case demonstrates my office’s commitment to aggressively prosecuting offenders who would take advantage of the most vulnerable among us,
our children. I appreciate the hard work of Assistant District Attorney Matt Rupp and the efforts of the Avery County Sheriff’s Office in bringing this defendant to justice.”
