Monday, patrol officers with the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office received a call at the Market Basket convenience store on Morganton Blvd. about a suspicious vehicle and person.  The caller said a white male was in the car and was armed with a gun. The caller provided police with a description and tag number of the suspicious vehicle. When Caldwell deputies arrived on the scene, the vehicle was gone, but with the information provided by the caller, deputies were able to locate the vehicle and suspect near the store. Deputies said they approached the vehicle and found a white male inside, identifying him as Steven Wayne Patton, 22, of Celia Creek Rd. Lenoir. Deputies say they found the gun in the floorboard of the vehicle after the owner gave officers permission to search, and during that consent search they also found 23.7 grams of Methamphetamine and other items that are used in the sale of narcotics. Steven Wayne Patton was charged with Possession of a firearm by a Convicted Felon, Possession with intent to Manufacture Sell and Deliver Methamphetamine, Maintaining a Vehicle for Controlled Substance purposes, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
Patton was set a $75,000.00 secured bond in the Caldwell County Detention Center.
