An Ashe County man was airlifted after being impaled while riding a four wheeler in the early evening yesterday.  Ashe Sheriff James Williams said the man, in his late 20’s, was riding the ATV in the Helton area of Ashe when he was impaled by the stick, striking the left rib area, passing

through his body, the end of the stick protruding a half inch out his back.  Ashe Rescue was initially called, but Lansing Fire and First Responders and Helton Ambulance rushed to the scene to deal with the man’s injuries while others set up a landing zone at old Lansing School for WINGS Air Rescue, and he was flown to the Johnson City Medical Center for treatment of the very serious injury.
