Governor Pat McCrory’s office has announced that interim District Attorney for the 24th Prosecutorial District Bob Orr has submitted his resignation from the post effective June 5th, and with that, the governor has issued a Commission to Burnsville attorney Seth Banks to take over the position. Banks will serve as interim for the remainder of the term vacated by Jerry Wilson due to health reasons.  The swearing in will take place at the Yancey County Courthouse in Burnsville at 6pm June 5th, administered by Justice Mark Martin of the NC Supreme Court, followed by a reception at the Nu-Wray Inn in Burnsville.  Orr, retired from the State Supreme Court, took the position in April, a week after Wilson announced his retirement.
The press release cited Banks’ election to the office in the May 6th primary, and the fact that no Democratic candidate filed for the November election.
There are still a number of questions as Banks sets up his administration, such as ADA jobs and where Banks’ main office will be.
