Two recently discovered marijuana growing operations have led to busts by the Avery Sheriff’s Office—both off of NC 105. Friday, Officers with the Avery County Sheriff’s Office followed up on information received earlier about a possible marijuana grow on Adams Apple Drive off Hwy 105. During the follow up investigation officers received enough information to obtain a search warrant for the residence.  A search of the residence located an indoor grow operation.  Arrested was 50 year old James Smith of Banner Elk.  Smith is charged with manufacturing marijuana, felony possession of marijuana and maintaining a dwelling.  Smith is placed in the Avery County Jail under a 25,000.00 bond.
Avery County Sheriff’s deputies received information reference a possible marijuana possession at a location on Hwy 105 South on May 12th. With that information, officers were able to obtain a search warrant with assistance of a K-9 unit.  The release says that a marijuana grow operation was located at 5200 Hwy 105 South #6 and that arrests are pending.
