An Ashe County man was found dead shortly after searchers headed out into the woods this morning near his Lansing home.  Sheriff James Williams said that Eddie Adams texted his wife yesterday to say he was taking a walk—in spite of the rainy weather—and said that, due to the rain, he was leaving his phone behind.  By evening, when the 42-year old had not returned to his Big Piney Creek area home, and that led to the call for volunteers from the Lansing, Creston, Warrensville, and New River fire departments along with the Ashe Rescue Squad to conduct a grid search. Williams said that searchers had been in the woods less than an hour when they found Adams’ body, and he said that, although it appeared there was no foul play, his department has the death under investigation.
