The rains came—and came again, and there were some troubles that came with the heavy downpours.  For our area, trouble came in the form of swollen streams and rivers with low water bridges under water, trees down, and a number of weather related traffic accidents.  One of those occurred late in the afternoon in the second sweep of heavy rain that hit the area, a two-vehicle crash on Three Mile Highway or NC 194 in Avery County, some injuries reported in that 5:30pm crash with one vehicle coming to rest a distance off of the road.  Charlotte, however, had the rarity of a metropolitan tornado from the system, hitting an area of south central Charlotte, raking the area with winds of 85 to 90 miles per hour.  Tree damage, some structure damage—but no injuries—reported in that storm.
