Fire Flattens Outbuilding, Damages Home PDF Print

Stewart Simmons, Deep Gap, and other Watauga Departments—even Champion out of Wilkes—were dispatched to a Friday afternoon fire that destroyed an outbuilding and damaged a home.  The fire call came in just before 4pm to a residence at 792 Powder Horn Mountain Road after a neighbor spotted the outbuilding on fire, and first arriving units found the fire spreading to and burning a portion of the residence, and that was where they centered their initial effort while struggling to get equipment and water to the structure.  For a time, firefighters allowed the already destroyed outbuilding burn while working to stop the fire damage to the home, and with that accomplished—and with hose lines run from pumper trucks—the fire was extinguished.  Watauga fire investigators are looking into the cause of that fire and are assessing the loss.
