Family members say they rushed the boy into the bathroom after calling 9-1-1. Animal control officers say the toddler had serious injuries to both his head and chest. Shirley Patterson, the childs Grandmother said, "They went to the swing set and I just assumed that's where they were at because I was washing dishes." The boy's great grandmother says the last time anyone saw the brothers was near a swing set not near the Rottweiler. Animal control officers say the dog was still on its chain when they showed up. Greg Greene, of Caldwell County Animal Control, said "It could have been a territorial thing. Unfortunately and I know his sounds crazy the dog could have been playing with the child."
The Rottweiler was placed in a locked dog run at Animal Control where it was quarantined. Patterson says he had only gotten the dog a few weeks ago and isn't sure what should happen to it now.
