Ashe Firemen Battle Two Woods Blazes PDF Print

At about noon Sunday, a number of Ashe fire departments responded to a woods fire, spotted across the road from 1772 Big Windfall Rd. in Lansing. By late afternoon, the windy conditions had spread the fire to about 80 acres, and numerous  Ashe County fire departments were called in with crews and equipment to deal with the tenacious blaze. At about the same time, there was another woods fire near the Ashe airport east of Jefferson, and the Ashe American Red Cross sent volunteers to aid firefighters, providing meals and water for both as the efforts went on into the early evening. The fires were finally contained as winds died down late yesterday.
