It appears the months of waiting are about to be over in the search for a new superintendent of the Watauga County Schools, that with the news release this afternoon that the Watauga County Board of Education will hold a special called meeting Thursday. The May 1st meeting will be at 6:00 p.m. at the Gragg Education Center, the release saying simply that the purpose of the meeting is to take action on a personnel matter. The release doesnt say it, but the matter will be the naming of a permanent replacement of former Superintendent David Kafitz who agreed to resign after several inappropriate interactions with community members became known. Since shortly after the resignation, Dr. David Fonseca has been the acting Superintendent, and did apply for the job. It was just yesterday that a school system press release talked about Fonseca completing Harvard Universitys program in Leading Education Systems, a special program offered by the Harvard Graduate School of Education to help educational leaders create and implement policies and practices to improve education for students, his second experience at Harvard.
