A brief Wednesday evening chase led to two arrests and a number of counts. Boone Police say that, shortly after 6:15 PM, a Boone Police officer responded to a report of a suspected impaired driver on West King Street. The officer located the suspect vehicle stationary in the parking lot of the Kangaroo Express at 1220 W King Street. When the officer exited his vehicle and started to approach the driver of the suspect vehicle, the driver jumped in his vehicle and left traveling westbound on King Street. The officer followed the vehicle and attempted to stop it, but the driver did not heed the lights and siren. A short low-speed pursuit followed, with the driver turning onto Highland Hall Road where he stopped.
As a result of the incident, Aaron Lee McGinnis, 31, of Georges Gap Road, Vilas, was arrested and charged with Driving While Impaired, Failure to Stop For Blue Lights and Siren, Driving Left of Center. Aaron McGinnis was held on a $1750 secured bond pending a June 3rd court appearance.
Additionally, Seth Willey, 36, of Green Street, Boone, was arrested and charged with Resist, Obstruct, or Delaying an Officer due to his actions during the incident. Seth Willey was a passenger in McGinnis vehicle. Police say Willey failed to remain in the vehicle after being instructed to do so and then attempted to flee on foot when the officer ordered him to stop. Seth Willey was held on a $1000 secured bond pending a June 3rd court appearance.
