Theres a struggle going on in Avery County where emergency services have scrambled their forces to try to mitigate a fuel spill into the Toe River, that after a tanker truck overturned, landing in the river. The wreck occurred on US 19 North in the Minneapolis area, the trucker losing
control, the truck skidding over the embankment an into the river, where it began losing its cargo of 600 gallons of kerosene into the river. The trucker, covered in the kerosene, was frantically trying to seal the leaks as emergency crews began to arrive, and there was more frustration as the nearest large wreckerlarge enough to handle the job of righting the truckwas at least a half-hour from the scene even travelling emergency speeds. Frank Firemen, first on the scene, called for backup of Avery fire departments with equipment to help deal with the spill into the river, and that effort is underway, trying to mitigate the environmental damage and for water intakes downstream. Indications from the scene are that the trucker was not seriously hurt in the wreck.
