Boone Council Votes to Give Theater Space PDF Print

Detail issues seemed to jump into the way, but in the end, the Boone Town Council started the process of deeding a space of town property to the use of the group developing the old Appalachian Theater to create some critical space inside the historic structure. John Cooper and Frank Mohler were there to ask for the space that would extend the stage of the theater just enough for off-stage use, space that would have to come from several parking spaces on the town lot behind town hall.  Council members seemed very much in favor of helping out—Lynn Mason...Town attorney Sam Furgiuele and Town Manager Greg Young both brought out point after point that might side track the donation, but in the end, on two motions by Mason, the council voted to proceed with the process of transferring the property to the theater group. That group is still fund-raising for the theater, Cooper saying recently that the silent phase of that process might soon be complete.
