The Boone Town Council, still reeling from the loss of nearly $2 million in sales tax revenue due to the Watauga County Commission taking action to restructure the method of sales tax collection last year, voted Tuesday night to make their official request of the commission to change back to per capita from ad valorem distribution of tax revenue collection. The resolution points out that Boone collects some 60 percent or better in the county’s sales tax, yet were shorted in the shift, the motion made by councilwoman Lynn Mason. The county commission made the change as a result of disputes with the town over appointments of extraterritorial jurisdiction members to the Boone Board of Adjustments.  After a number of meetings, the two boards are close to making coming to a resolution of that dispute, although all points are not yet set, according to the town attorney’s report.
