While family members are preparing for the funeral of a U.S. Forest Service officer killed in the line of duty Wednesday a procession stretching 100 miles along Interstate 40 Thursday paid tribute to the fallen officer. Officer Jason Crisp was shot and killed during a search for a murder suspect Wednesday. Crisp’s aunt Judy Johnson said he wasn’t supposed to be at work, but he answered a call for help, saying “He was called in because there was a gate that needed to be unlocked and he evidently had the key,” Johnson said.. Crisp and his K-9 were killed while tracking murder suspect Troy Whisnant in Burke County. The response of many other agencies was evident in that the officers who shot and killed Whisnant 90 minutes after Crisp was killed were from the State Patrol and Alcohol Law Enforcement.
