Preparation Underway for Snow, Icy Weather PDF Print
Written by Renee Whitener, BREMCO

Due to ice, snow and sleet predicted for tonight and tomorrow morning across its service territory, Blue Ridge Electric Membership Corporation employees are on high alert in the event outages occur. Currently, one-tenth to one-quarter inch of ice is predicted for the area east of the Blue Ridge Parkway, while one to three inches of snow or sleet is predicted for higher elevations. "We'll be closely monitoring conditions and responding quickly should outages occur," said Robert Kent, director of operations for Blue Ridge Electric. "Up to one-tenth of an inch of ice shouldn't cause problems," Kent explained, "but ice accumulations greater than that could cause problems by pulling down tree limbs outside of the electric system's right-of-way onto the power lines."

Members are advised to be prepared for severe weather and keep the cooperative's outage reporting PowerLine number handy: 1-800-448-2383.

Members can visit Blue Ridge Electric's Storm Room for tips and an online outage map at BlueRidgeEMC.com.
