Seven Devils Officer shoots suspect, sources say PDF Print
Wednesday, 09 January 2008 19:00

Officers convene after the incident.N.C. Highway 105 was a sea of blue lights last night as rescue and law enforcement personnel from Watauga and Avery counties responded to the scene of an officer-involved shooting in Foscoe.

Few details have been released about the incident that occurred at a residence just south of Casey's Gap Road. A source within Watauga County Sheriff’s Office tells us Seven Devils Police responded to a call that led to gunfire. A Seven Devils officer is alleged to have shot a suspect. Circumstances surrounding the incident have not been released, but the State Bureau of Investigations is assisting Seven Devils in its investigation, as is routine with all officer involved shootings.

The suspect was transported by ambulance to a landing zone in Foscoe for helicopter transport. At this time, the suspect’s condition is not known, nor is it clear which hospital received the suspect.

To accommodate the investigation as well as the swarm of patrol cars from both Watauga and Avery counties, the Northbound lane was closed to non-emergency traffic.

Seven Devils Police Department officials tell us they hope to be able to release a statement within the next few hours. We’ll have more information as it becomes available.
