ASU Announces MLK speaker PDF Print

Appalachian State University has announced its keynote speaker for the 24th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemoration program. 
Dr. Freeman Hrabowski III, president of the University of Maryland at Baltimore County and a child-leader in the Civil Rights Movement will speak at the event, which begins at 7 p.m. in Farthing Auditorium on January 23. Hrabowski was prominently featured in Spike Lee’s 1997 documentary, “Four Little Girls” about the racially motivated bombing in 1963 of Birmingham’s Sixteenth Street Baptist Church. He also coauthored the books “Beating the Odds” and “Overcoming the Odds” which focus on parenting and high-achieving African American males and females in science.
