New Hotel Death Case Appears Natural Causes PDF Print
Written by Steve Frank

Tuesday morning, at approximately 10:30 am, the Boone Police Department responded to the Holiday Inn Express at 1943 Blowing Rock Road, Boone, to investigate a death in room 528.  Upon arrival, officers discovered Mr. Wayne Robert Illar, 58, was deceased inside his room.  Investigators were called to the scene and began their probe into the incident.  Police investigators said no carbon monoxide was found in the room, and investigators said they do not suspect any foul play in this incident. The North Carolina Medical Examiner’s Office conducted an autopsy on the victim, and all preliminary reports indicate the death was from natural causes.  It was ironic that at the same time the death was discovered, the case of Barry Damon Malletere, charged in three deaths at the Boone Best Western hotel, was having an arraignment hearing, one that was continued to April.
