Ashe Sheriff James Williams reports that detectives from the Ashe County Sheriff's Office have charged a West Jefferson man in an incident in which shots were fired into an occupied Crumpler home in the summer of 2012. The incident occurred on August 18th, 2012, reports saying someone had driven by a residence on Andy Fowler Road in Crumpler, firing several rounds from a weapon into the home.  A 17 month investigation has resulted in charging James Ezra Atkinson, 31, of West Jefferson with firing a .25 caliber pistol into the home while the residence was occupied. The release says Atkinson has multiple Felony convictions which prohibit him to even be in the presence of any firearm.  James Ezra Atkinson was charged with Discharging a Weapon into an Occupied Dwelling (Class D Felony) and Possession of Firearm by a Convicted Felon (Class G Felony). While warrants for Atkinson's arrest were issued on February 3rd, 2014 Atkinson is currently serving prison time for prior convictions and the warrants have not been served.
