Hundreds of mostly parents and students crowded the auditorium at Watauga High to express themselves on the issue of a book challenge, an issue that has divided a school and a community.  The book by Isabel Allende, "House of Spirits," faced its third level of appeal before the crowd and the Board of Education, with 21 speakers making comparisons, some to the Bible—from both sides of the issue, and many others showing just how divided—albeit civilly—the community is over the book. School officials set a decision date of February 27th with a ‘snow’ date of March 6th to make the final decision on the book challenge which started back in October.
