Suspicious Fire Claims Caldwell Home PDF Print

Fire investigators in Caldwell County are calling a fire suspicious that destroyed one of the oldest homes near Lenoir. When firefighters got to the home on Clarks Chapel Road built in the mid 1800's shortly before midnight, much of it was engulfed in flames.  Investigators say there wasn't any power running to the home and no one had lived there for several years. Neighbors describe hearing explosions and seeing a car quickly leave prior to firefighters arriving.
Don Hoyle, Former Resident, told Dave Faherty at Channel 9, "It is sad but something like that an old house like that...that's a drawing for young kids to burn..you know something to do." Fire investigators focused much of their effort near the rear of the home where they believe the fire possibly started.
