In an attempt to ease the burden on many of our citizens during the holiday season, the Boone Police Department organized a food drive to help people in need in our area.  The food collected during this drive was donated to the Hunger & Health Coalition in Boone, NC for distribution. The Hunger & Health Coalition organization collects, organizes and distributes food, medication, clothing and firewood to needy families in our area. The Hunger & Health Coalition feeds over 1,600 children and 1,000 elderly people every month in the Boone area.
The method the Health & Hunger Coalition uses to measure donated food is by weight and the total amount of food collected during this drive is 880 pounds. Investigators with the Boone Police Department delivered the collected food to the Health & Hunger Coalition as it was collected.

“We had a lot people and organizations partner-up with us to help get the donations we collected. Boone has a big heart and the success of this food drive shows that people here care about others.” – Lt. Chris Hatton

“We asked for the public’s help and we got it, the community response was wonderful. We appreciate everyone who came together and helped by donating food to this worthy cause.” – Chief Crawford

While this drive has ended, the Hunger & Health Coalition accepts donated food items year-round. There is always a need for donations; they never have as much food as they need to fulfill the need. If you or someone you know would like to volunteer or sponsor a food drive for the Hunger & Health Coalition, the staff there can be reached at 828.262.1628.  Their facility is located at 141 Health Center Drive in Boone, NC.
