At just after dusk last Wednesday, the Avery Sheriff’s Office received a call from a woman reporting a bloodied male, barefoot, in her drive, asking her to call 911.  She kept the male away from her home while calling the Sheriff’s Department, the call received there at about 6:00 P.M. Officers responded to the Old Toe River Rd address and found a sixteen year old male who reported being assaulted, his shoes stolen.  The teen was transported to Cannon Hospital where he was admitted for injuries sustained while telling of the assault that began in a Christmas tree field on Belview Mountain.  Sheriff Kevin Frye reported that his officers and investigators worked late into the night, finally arresting eighteen year old Jamie Harris, twenty one year old Randy Fountain and a seventeen year old unnamed male.  All three are charged with Second Degree Kidnapping and Assault inflicting serious bodily injury and were placed in the Avery County Jail under $75,000.00 bonds each.  The incident is still under investigation with other possible charges to be reviewed by the 24th District Attorney’s office.
