On Thursday, January 16, 2014, the U.S. Marshals Service – Western District of North Carolina’s Violent Offender Task Force (VOTF), along with the Watauga County Sheriff’s Office, arrested Frances Calhoun Yancey, for Possession of a Weapon by a convicted Felon, along with manufacturing, selling and distributing methamphetamine.  A joint investigation by U.S. Marshals from the Western District of North Carolina and the Watauga County Sheriff’s Office revealed that Yancey was living at 110 Seven Oaks Lane, Boone, NC.  As Law Enforcement Officers approached the residence, Yancey barricaded herself inside, but after approximately two hours, she surrendered to authorities.  Yancey was ultimately arrested and confined in the Watauga County Jail, pending court proceedings.

The U.S. Marshals Violent Offenders Task Force is a fugitive apprehension team, consisting of law enforcement officers from the U.S. Marshals Service, Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office, the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department and the NC Department of Public Safety.

Annually, investigations carried out by the U.S. Marshals result in the apprehension of approximately 34,000 federal fugitives. More federal fugitives are arrested by Marshals than all other federal agencies combined.
