Patterson firefighters who responded to the collapse call found themselves dealing with a structure fire only a couple of miles up 321 while still working at the scene of the collapse.  Fire investigators in Caldwell County are trying to determine what started a fire that damaged a home feet behind where the owners worked. The owner says she was working in her store when a customer alerted her about the fire at the home behind the business at the convenience store on the steep hill just above Nelson’s Chapel.   The house was being remodeled and no one was inside when the fire started. Firefighters climbed to the roof to cover an area with a tarp to keep Saturday’s heavy rain out after it was damaged by the fire.
