An update on a New Year’s Assault we told you about
earlier this week in Watauga County:
Assault suspect 38-year-old Donald Lee McCormick of
Zionville was issued three felony charges yesterday. McCormick has been charged
with first-degree burglary, assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious
injury and discharging a weapon in an occupied building. Initially, McCormick
was charged with communicating threats and assault by pointing a gun.
The charges stem from a January 1 incident where
McCormick is alleged to have burst in the back door of a residence on Wards
Branch Road, brandished a pistol, fired it at residents and pistol-whipped one
individual. Victims have not been identified. McCormick was issued a $75,000 secured bond yesterday and faces a
February 8th court date.
