It’s still flu season.
While Watauga County hasn’t had as many confirmed cases as in previous years, there’s still plenty of time for an outbreak, and only one way to prevent getting sick. Watauga Health Department’s Debbie Garrett says there are plenty of vaccines available.
“It’s never too late to get a flu shot. It does take about two weeks to build immunity. We recommend that you come in or see your healthcare provider if you haven’t had a vaccination already.”
In 2006, a flu outbreak forced the closure of schools in many parts of the state, including Yancey and Mitchell counties.
