Two Women Hurt in Wrong Way Crash PDF Print

There were a number of Saturday traffic accidents with injuries, including a wrong way crash on US 421 in Deep Gap.  That head-on crash occurred just after 4pm as Opal Page of North Wilkesboro turned off of the Blue Ridge Parkway onto 421, not seeing that she had turned into the oncoming lane. Trooper Hendrix said that it was foggy in the area at the time, and that darkness was approaching, but Page traveled nearly a mile in the wrong lane, approaching the US 221 intersection when she slammed her 2005 Nissan into the 2000 Toyota that Sonya West was driving east toward the Parkway bridge.  Both women were taken to Watauga Medical Center by Watauga Medics as Deep Gap Fire/First Responders worked the scene.  Trooper Hendrix cited Opal Page for Wrong Way on a Dual Lane Highway. Both cars were totaled.
