Wednesday, 02 January 2008 09:27

Watauga deputies had a busy New Year’s Day.

Just after 7 p.m. deputies and a state trooper responded to a home invasion and assault at a residence on Wards Branch Road. Officers found 38-year-old Donald Lee McCormick inside the residence and in possession of a pistol. He is being held on a $50,000 secured bond. Victims allege McCormick burst in the back door of the residence, brandished a pistol, fired it at them and used it to pistol-whip one of the victims. One individual was transported to Watauga Medical Center with serious injuries. Investigation into the incident is continuing, officials say.
