At the Boone Town Council meeting, the changing of the guard. After the swearing in of the new Mayor and Council members, the issue of filling the rest of Andy Ball’s council term—two years—was brought before the new council, with five filing for that seat.  In the end, it was ASU professor Fred Hay who was chosen as the lone nominee, unanimously approved by the new council. Then the new board grappled with the continuing troubles with the Daniel Boone Amphitheater and the needs of the Southern Appalachian Historical Association for the production of Horn in the West . Pilar Fotta reported to the board the struggles of the Cultural Resources Board with the situation at the theater, with some structures so decrepit the council voted in a recent meeting to tear them down. But SAHA reported to Cultural Resources that the destruction might kill chances of putting on Horn in the West this year, and asked for two months of evaluation for possible repairs. Fotta reported on improper and illegal electrical repairs done at the site by Horn staffers, and just how unsafe the structures are, but in the end the town council voted to give SAHA a 60-day license to do the evaluation of possible repairs with a report back to Cultural Resources, then to the Town Council before the next step in dealing with troubles at the theater and action that might be taken.
