An Ashe County man was injured in a morning crash just out of West Jefferson.  The 7:20am wreck occurred as 47-year old Derek Goodman was approaching slowing or stopped traffic on NC 163 near the Daniels Daughter bridge.  Trooper Brown of the NC State Patrol said the West Jefferson man told him he tapped the brakes on his 2002 Subaru wagon, and the car skidded off to his right, striking the end of the guardrail, then ran off into the woods.  Ashe Medics, first responders, and rescue all responded to the crash with possible entrapment, but Brown said Goodman was conscious when he arrived and was being treated at Ashe Memorial for a number of injuries. He cited Derek Goodman for Failure to Maintain Lane Control in the crash.
Then there was the tractor trailer that fouled up traffic in Avery County this morning.  The truck was trying to turn into the new Dollar General store in Pineola when it jack-knifed, blocking both lanes of US 221.  The highway was blocked for most of an hour from the 8am mishap, traffic facing a long detour to get around the mess.
