Sheriffs reflect, look to 2008 PDF Print
Sunday, 30 December 2007 19:46
<!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--><!--[endif]-->

2007 brought new sheriffs to Watauga and Avery counties.

Watauga’s Len Hagaman feels good about his first year in office.

<!--[if !supportEmptyParas]-->

<!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--> <!--[endif]--> “It’s gone extremely well. I’ve been very pleased, very pleased.” <!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--> <!--[endif]-->

Hagaman looks forward to continuing his service in 2008.

<!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--> <!--[endif]--> <!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--><!--[endif]--> “Doing bigger and better things and hopefully making Watauga County a safer place to live and work and play.” <!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--> <!--[endif]-->

One area he plans to focus more energy on in 2008 is break-ins.

<!--[if !supportEmptyParas]-->
<!--[endif]--> “It seems that our breaking and enterings are up a little more, so we’re going to concentrate on that.” <!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--> <!--[endif]-->

Avery’s Kevin Frye has a New Year’s Resolution of his own.

<!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--> <!--[endif]--> <!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--><!--[endif]--> “To provide better services, better quality of services to the people of Avery County, to protect them and make them feel more secure.” <!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--> <!--[endif]-->

In particular, he wants to help Avery’s elderly population, educating them about scams and how to protect themselves.

<!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--> <!--[endif]-->

The drug problem is another area Frye wants to focus on in 2008. He hopes to work with the schools and develop better drug education in the county.

<!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--> <!--[endif]-->

His first year in office has been worthwhile, he says.

<!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--> <!--[endif]--> “ I think it’s been a very, very good learning experience for me. I'm learning each and every day things that we can do, looking at ways we can do things better.” <!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--> <!--[endif]--> He, like Hagaman, hopes to continue a job well done in the New Year.
