|Sen. Dan Soucek to Speak on Local Education|

Sen. Dan Soucek will host two forums in early December to discuss recent legislation impacting K-12 education. The events, Dec. 2 at Avery County High School and Dec. 5 at Deep Gap Volunteer Fire Department, will include bipartisan panels of education leaders.
Soucek is the representative for NC's 45th district, which includes Alleghany, Ashe, Avery, Caldwell and Watauga counties. He is co-chairman for both the Appropriations on Education/Higher Education and Education/Higher Education committees for the 2013-2014 legislative session.
Soucek is still currently assembling the list of panelists for the events. The panel will address topics such as teacher tenure, teacher pay raises, public charter schools, opportunity scholarships and home school legislation, among other topics.
Soucek, who represents Caldwell, Avery, Alleghany, Ashe and Watauga counties, serves as co-chairman of the Senate Committee on Education.
The first forum will take place from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Dec. 2 at the theater at Avery County High School in Newland. The second is planned for 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Dec. 5 at the Deep Gap Volunteer Fire Department on Old U.S. 421 in Deep Gap.
