Local bluegrass gospel band Southern Accent looks forward to a great New Year.

Not only has the band just released a new cd, On a Journey, but it’s also ringing in the New Year Monday night at the Riverview in Creston.

According to bassist and singer Paulette Isaacs, Southern Accent has a sound everyone will enjoy.

"It's just banjo, mandolin, guitar and bass."

The group has been performing in the High Country for the past 15 years. On a Journey, their fourth cd, was named for a song written by band member Connie Norris. The cd is available at Appalachian Music on the 105 Extension and at all Southern Accent performances.

The group next performs at Shady Grove Baptist Church in Wilkesboro at 7:30 on Saturday.
