A two-vehicle accident claimed two lives on 321 yesterday between Boone and Blowing Rock.
45-year-old Terrie Whitt died at the scene. Boone Firefighters had to use extrication equipment to free her body from the vehicle. 67-year-old Thomas Edward Younce died at Watauga Medical Center. Both victims were from Boone. Younce, who was driving a 1999 Lexus SUV, was traveling north on 321 when his vehicle went left of center, striking Whitt’s southbound 2000 Subaru head-on.
According to Trooper Adams, both vehicles were traveling at the speed limit, approximately 45 miles per hour. An autopsy will be performed to determine if a medical condition led to the crash, but Adams says we may never know what caused Younce to cross the centerline. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts.
The accident happened just before 4 p.m. approximately one mile south of Boone. Whitt was on her way to work at Woodlands Barbeque.
Woodlands Barbeque, is setting up a fund for her two young children. We'll have information on the fund and how you can donate in our regular Monday broadcast and on goblueridge.net. Woodlands Barbeque is closed today as employees struggle to deal with the loss of one of their own.
