Friday, 28 December 2007 04:13

A two-vehicle accident claimed two lives on 321 yesterday between Boone and Blowing Rock.

45-year-old Terrie Whitt died at the scene. Boone Firefighters had to use extrication equipment to free her body from the vehicle. 67-year-old Thomas Edward Younce died at Watauga Medical Center. Both victims were from Boone. Younce, who was driving a 1999 Lexus SUV, was traveling north on 321 when his vehicle went left of center, striking Whitt’s southbound 2000 Subaru head-on.

According to Trooper Adams, both vehicles were traveling at the speed limit, approximately 45 miles per hour. An autopsy will be performed to determine if a medical condition led to the crash, but Adams says we may never know what caused Younce to cross the centerline. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts.

The accident happened just before 4 p.m. approximately one mile south of Boone. Whitt was on her way to work at Woodlands Barbeque.
