Community stepping up, Red Cross needs more PDF Print
Thursday, 27 December 2007 06:04

Since last month, the community has donated over $2,000 to the Caldwell branch of the American Red Cross.

Director David Garrison says he can’t thank the community enough- but more is needed.

“We’re averaging close to $1,500 per fire, so, it’s helping out some, but we definitely could use more.”

It’s been a unique year. The past six months have yielded more fires in the Caldwell area than any previous total year- meaning the Red Cross is more strapped for cash than usual.

A Saturday fire on Annas Farm Lane in Hudson attracted Red Cross support.

“What we do is we assist with groceries and clothing and food and bedding and linen and that kind of thing. This time of year we also give garment allotments. We also put them up in a hotel for the weekend.”

Cash donations are preferred because even when distributing garments, the Red Cross typically issues cash gift cards.
