Avery voters in six municipalities made their choices. In Newland, Valerie Calloway Jaynes took the mayoral vote, with Roxanna Robertson, Thomas Jackson, and Stanley Hollifield taking the three council seats, ousting Dave Calvert. In Banner Elk, Brenda Lyerly ran unopposed for Mayor, and in the council race, it was Michael Dunn and Robert Tufts taking the two open seats there over Ron DeFord. In Crossnore, Tudor Vance won as Mayor, Jesse Smith, Billy Howard, and Dan Vance took the three alderman seats there, and in Grandfather Village, Robert Donovan ran unopposed for mayor. In Sugar Mountain, Scott Brown and David Ammann were the only candidates for the two seats there. Elk Park, John Boone ran unopposed for mayor while Tommy Norman, Daniel Boone, Michael Smith, Tony Eller, and Joel Whitley all ran—and all won the five open seats.
