A Boone man was jailed under $35,000 secured bond after a hit-and-run crash that involved three vehicles, a woman injured, and damage to other properties.  The sequence started just before 6pm yesterday on Deerfield Road as Annie Jane Meyers stopped to turn left, Dale Franklin Caudill slowing behind her when his ’94 Dodge truck was struck by the ’99 Subaru that Harry James Gandy Jr. was driving.  Boone Police say that Gandy swerved left initially, sideswiping the truck, then continued on, passing the truck, just as Meyers, of Athens Georgia, was making her turn.  The impact with Gandy’s car spun her ’99 Taurus, and in the confusion, she hit the gas and slammed into the guardrail before landing back out in the road, according to police. Police say that Gandy then struck the fence at the Moose Lodge before traveling across the grass, back out onto Deerfield, fleeing the scene.  A bulletin was issued for his car, and Boone Police Cpt. Andy LeBeau found the vehicle on Holiday Hills Road, and made the arrest.  33-year old Harry James Gandy Jr. faces 8 counts, including DWI, both Felony and Misdemeanor Hit and Run, Failure to Comply with License Restrictions involving alcohol consumption, Failure to Reduce Speed, Left of Center, and both Expired Tag and Inspection. Police say that Annie Jane Meyers was transported the short distance to Watauga Medical Center for treatment, but her passenger was not injured, nor was Caudill, of River Ridge Road, Boone.
