Record travelers hit roads this weekend PDF Print
Thursday, 20 December 2007 22:04
Not only are holiday travelers not deterred by higher gas and ticket prices in North Carolina this year, but more people than ever are hitting the road.
AAA Carolinas reports that gas prices have risen 30 percent statewide since last Christmas. The cost of airline tickets has increased 16 percent. 1.6 million residents, however, are expected to travel this holiday season. That’s a 1.5 increase from last year. To help them along, the Department of Transportation is suspending all road construction between tonight and January 2. Work zone speed limits will remain in effect.
