The body of a fisherman from Roan Mountain, TN was found in Watauga Lake late Sunday after a search by teams of rescue members.  Landon W. Campbell was reported missing after his boat collided with an island just upstream of Fish Springs Marina, according to Carter County authorities. The Carter County Rescue Squad recovered the body of the Perkins Hollow Rd., Roan Mtn. man from the lake just after 5 p.m. Sunday using of an underwater remote operated vehicle. Landon Campbell was 61 years of age, and had suffered a some medical issues, according to family. The search started after TWRA officers were notified Sunday morning about an unoccupied bass boat, found by a fisherman around 10:00 am. Another witness on a sailboat reported that they had noticed the unoccupied bass boat in the same area around 10:00 pm the night before, the vessel displaying its navigation lights. Authorities said that the victim apparently launched his boat Saturday at Rat Branch boat ramp several miles downstream of the accident scene. Officers said they located the truck and empty trailer and notified the then missing fishermen’s family who informed them that he suffers from several medical conditions. An autopsy has been ordered and the accident remains under investigation.
