Assessment of Horn In The West Facilities Asked PDF Print

The Boone Cultural Resources Board yesterday voted to ask the Boone Town Council to again look at the facilities of the Daniel Boone Theater, home of Horn in the West for over 60 years.  After a presentation showing troubles with the aging facility—bathrooms, showers, storage areas and more, the board voted to have the town seek professional assessment of the facilities, an assessment that would lead to recommendations of repairs and renovations that could be phased in over a number of years. The issue comes as the Cultural Resources Board takes on the task of deciding how licensing of town facilities would work for both the town and groups like the Southern Appalachian Historical Association, who puts on Horn in the West and use town-owned facilities. The board also voted to ask for funds raised as part of the work of the Cultural Resources Board remain in their coffers to give them some working funds for projects—that instead of having funds left over at the end of the fiscal year returning to the general fund. Hopes are to have the matters before the Town Council in their next meeting.
