The family of a Wilkes man who was reported missing after an Alaska plane crash said he was found safe Sunday night. James Minton, 65, was reported to be in good shape after he was taken to a medical center to be checked out, his family told WXII-TV. Authorities said Minton, was on a fishing trip with the pilot of the plane, Patrick Williams, 53, of Oregon. Officials said their plane went down near Lake Clark, Alaska. A note left at the wreckage indicated the two were walking to the nearest town, about 11 miles away. Minton's family contacted officials in Alaska, who said the two walked 8 hours to civilization and to seek some medical attention. James Minton is the owner of Minton Automotive Truck Sales on Highway 16 in Wilkesboro.
