Governor bets on Mountaineer victory PDF Print

Governor Mike Easley has Mountaineer fever- and he’s willing to bet on his team, literally.

Easley and Delaware Governor Ruth Ann Minner agreed to a “friendly” wager yesterday on the outcome of Friday night’s NCAA Division I Football Championship between the Appalachian State University Mountaineers and the University of Delaware Blue Hens. Should ASU lose, Easley has to deliver a pound of eastern North Carolina barbeque from Goldsboro, a pound of western barbeque from Lexington, fixings, and a case of Cheerwine. Should the Mountaineers prove victorious, however, Minner will have to deliver some Delaware favorites: Grotto’s pizza, Nic-o-Boli’s and Dogfish Head root beer. In a statement to the Associated Press, Easley said he’s looking forward to the pizza- but not as much as he will “savor watching Appalachian State’s football team take their unprecedented third consecutive national title.”
