On August 15, 2013, Boone Police arrested Julio Antonio Yanez, of Boone, after two additional incidents were reported to the Boone Police Department. These incidents, that occurred in April and June, were similar to the incident that lead to Mr. Yanez’s initial arrest on July 22, 2013. The female victims reported that Mr. Yanez allegedly entered their unsecured apartments and proceeded to get into their beds and attempted to give them backrubs.

Mr. Yanez was charged with two counts of Misdemeanor Breaking and Entering and two counts of Misdemeanor Assault on a Female.  He was placed under a $2,000 secured bond pending a court date of September 17, 2013.

As Appalachian State University starts the fall semester, it is a good time to remember the following safety tips:

Be aware of your surroundings. If you see something that looks suspicious, call the police. We don't ever mind coming and finding out that it's not suspicious.

If you're out walking at night, carry a cell phone so that you can call if something happens.

Always try to walk with a friend when out after dark.

Always try to walk in well-lit areas and avoid secluded spots.

Always lock you doors.
