Sprinkler proposal declined PDF Print
Tuesday, 11 December 2007 19:14

A policy that would require sprinkler systems in large or multistory homes failed to meet the approval of the state Building Code Council.

A fire that killed seven South Carolina college students at a North Carolina beach house earlier this year inspired firefighters to bring the proposal before the council.

By a vote of 7-6 yesterday, the Council refused to accept measure. The proposal would have required sprinklers in new homes of more than 3,600 square feet or structures three or more stories off the ground.
