ASU on Princeton "Best in Southeast" List PDF Print

Appalachian State University is among 138 colleges included in The Princeton Review’s “Best in the Southeast” section of its website feature “2014 Best Colleges: Region by Region” released Aug. 5. The “regional best” colleges constitute only 25 percent of the nation’s four-year colleges, according to The Princeton Review. “From hundreds of institutions we considered in each region, we selected these schools primarily for their excellent academic programs. Secondarily, we took into account what students attending the schools reported to us about their campus experiences at them on our student survey for this project,” said Robert Franek, senior vice president and publisher. “Only schools that permit us to independently survey their students are eligible to be considered for our regional ‘best’ lists.”

In Princeton Review surveys, students described Appalachian as having “caring and stimulating professors” as well as offering “challenging courses.” Students also credited the university for being “aware of the limitations of its size and location” and therefore offering “opportunities for creativity and growth” beyond the campus, including a residential facility in New York City. The Princeton Review is an education services company widely known for its test prep programs and college and graduate school guides. Headquartered in Framingham, Mass., with editorial offices in New York and locations across the U.S. and abroad, The Princeton Review is not affiliated with Princeton University.
