Thanksgiving sex offender indicted PDF Print
Sunday, 09 December 2007 18:08

A man charged with raping a child in the first-degree on Thanksgiving has received a true bill of indictment from a Caldwell County grand jury.

Registered sex offender 26-year-old Ronnie Neil Penley of Morganton has also been charged with indecent liberties with a child, assault with a deadly weapon and first degree kidnapping. Penley was arrested Thanksgiving morning after Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office responded to a sexual assault call in the northern part of the county. Penley is alleged to have attacked a 10-year-old girl while her mother and mother’s boyfriend were sleeping in the bedroom connected to the living room. The girl and her 6-year-old brother were sleeping in the living room when the attack occurred. The 6-year-old told police he witnessed the attack. The family was staying with a friend and authorities say Penley is the boyfriend of that friend. Penley’s initial Sex Offender Registration was for a 2004 conviction of indecent liberties with a child.
